  1. because he based the heliocentric theory and galileo proved it  


  2. He's credited for the concept of a heliocentric solar system.  Ptolemy and those before Copernicus always believed in the "Earth Centered" universe.

  3. Because he had the foresight & courage to challenge the accepted views of the time. In other words, he was a true pioneer in his field & laid down the foundations which we use today.

  5. Like others have stated above. One of a couple reasons may be because Copernicus changed people's view of the heavens and how it worked. This change in thought was a revolution in his time because it also would've challenged the Church's view. However, Copernicus kept this secret until his death and it wasn't until Galileo improved on the idea and proved Copernicus' theory correct.
