I don't know. I think my sandwich tastes better after handling chemicals in the lab. Maybe they don't want to attract roaches?

In a hospital lab, you wouldn't want specimens with infectious diseases to add flavor to your food or drink!

A friend of mine once picked up a beaker of photo developer and took a drink of it, thinking it was a glass of Coca Cola.

There are, of course, many other problems of cross-contamination that could be dangerous to your health, and certainly could upset the results of a test or experiment.
