Why might farmers want to use asexual reproduction of plants instead of sexual propagation?

  1. Some plants are easier to reproduce that way because they only flower very rarely.  

    Also a clone is exactly the same, genetically, as the parent.  Sexual reproduction is a big pain for farmers because it changes the nature of the crop from year to year.  Clones stay the same.


  2. assuming that by asexual you mean planting vegetative cuttings, it is way more profitable and the percent loss is much lower with cuttings. Typical reproduction takes the loss that nature deals to that method of germination. The nation as a whole is losing bee colonies and it is difficult  to rely on that type (sexual) reproduction.

    Hope that helps, My fiancee and I are greenhouse flower growers. So the answer may be slightly skewed although there are many other methods for the asexual reprodution.
