  1. tax.

plus, they'll likely have one off set up costs - for example, buying the equipment so they can generate their own electricity.

they'll also need money for clothes, or if they're making their own then fabric.

bowls? cups? suacepans? even if you're self sufficient in terms of food you'll still needmany things you can't self-produce.

    medicine? petrol?

  2. a sufficient person/family may grow their own food and produce their own energy they may even make their own clothes. but theres still things like the phone bill, tv licence, car taxes, other taxes, family days out, house hold apliances and other luxuries.

  3. i assume by self sufficient you mean they are growing enough food to feed themselves etc?

they would probably spend money on enjoying life.

  4. They would have to mighty self sufficient not to need money.

Weave their own clothes having kept sheep, grown flax?.

Find a free bit of land and build adequate shelter for all weathers?.

Grow all their food, make all utensils for storing, cooking and eating?.

Gather their own herbal medicines, cut their own hair (what with?), make some sort of soap, make bedding...

And where would the first seeds or animals come from?

They would be worn out in no time - so perhaps they wouldn't need cash for very long!
