Why might this kitten be doing this and what can I do about it?

I moved this kitten from a small cage to a larger cage to give her more room. She's at least 6 months old and I don't know her history. The larger cage has a metal bottom which I have placed a few towels and a fleece blanket in a corner along with a cushy sheet. She's been laying in her litter box. She's using the litter box like she should. She's eating and drinking well. Could she be using the litter box because the cage is too big or because the bottom is not cushy enough still?

  1. Why do you have this kitten in a cage? Cats aren't meant to be in cages except to go to and from somewhere. Dogs can be crated for housebreaking but cats shouldn't be. Let her out of the cage and she'll find a much more comfy place to lay than in the litter box.

  2. Most likely she either finds it more comfortable or its cooler then her cage (temperature wise).  Cats tend to love heat but when sleeping most cats like to be cool so they will find a cool place to sleep thats also why they sprawl out as well.
