Why most people think all European countries are rich?

while in reality some such as Albania or Moldova are as poor as the poorest countries of latin America. A lot of European countries are considered developping countries or even "third world" for some. Almost only western Europe and some central European nation are really fully rich and developped.

  1. Lack of information and gullibility.

  2. I think when most people talk of Europe, they mean the European Union. And those countries are more or less rich.

But the geographical Europe contains of course all countries from the atlantik in the west to the ural mountains in the east. So geographically europe contains of course even the poor countries ;)

  3. Because of the top 10 countries based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, I hope you know what that means, 7 are European countries. Having lived behind an iron curtain, ideologically and economically for more than 50 years, you cannot expect to approach to western standards just within 10 years. But I am quite sure, that all European countries have a better perspective in the 21st century than ever before. Keep believing and do not resignate!

  4. If you look at the definition of "third world" and have even a basic education of how to read financial indicators such as GDP data then you will know that none of Europe are "third world".

"Almost only western Europe and some central nation are really fully rich and developed" - I disagree.   Apart from the indicators, have you ever actually seen some of the countries you mention for yourself.  I have!  I have been to many central European countries (all of which we have subsidaries with from my work) and many Balkan countries with whom we have some distributors, plus I have been on holiday to (and a Balkan husband!)

The reality is that yes, foreign investment is required for some countries to help them develop their economies and especially the tourist trade which they could really invest in.  However - poor and third world is not a true reflection in the slightest

I suggest you read a little more about the financial data, visit them for yourself and then you may have a different opinion.

On a futher point - financial rich and culturally rich - very different, and many of the countries you talk about are exceptionally rich in culture & history, with a proud population of people who would not appreciate being called "third world"

    EDIT

Ok, so, to re-iterate, my point of objection was to "many European countries still have weak economies,of similar levels that countries usually considered as developping countries, and even similar to some considered "third world"

None of Europe's country's are classified as 3rd world and I asked you to go away and read, and instead you post reference to a vague map from a dubious source, and a tenous comparison with Boliva of all places!

I am not going to engage in all-out fact warfare, but will try to summarise as quickly as I can:

    (a) Definition of a 3rd world country: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_World

    (b) Determination of 3rd world countries.  In terms of GNI as sourced from the IMF and also Human Development (source UN) there are no countries in Europe determined as "3rd World" http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/th...

I will also say it again, before making assumptions (obviously based on poor source data), take time out to visit countries for yourself.  If you are not convinced, then actually visit a 3rd world country such as Ethopia, Chad, Mali etc.  My husband (as I told you from the Balkans has stayed in the Congo for 3 months, and so is in a perfect position to directly compare) showed me photos and videos of a real 3rd world nation from his own experience, and beleive me, if you would see this and then compare, you would very quickly terminate this discussion!
