Right now I am visiting Dublin Ireland for a month. Great city by the way. However, one thing confuses me,why does most shops closes at 6 PM everyday except 8PM on thursdays? From where i came from, most shops closes on 9PM or 10PM everyday. Is this some sort of western culture that i have not heard about or something else?

  1. If the demand was there maybe they would, maybe it isn't thought necessary

A lot of people still commute into the larger cities to work & to shop, they usually disappear by early evening, it may be an inconvenience to tourists but perhaps the volume of customers needed to justify opening that late isn't there.  There might be issues as well if it's a residential area or it may be a condition imposed by law.

Outside of Dublin, there are big stores like Dunnes Stores, which have several big outlets around Limerick that open 24 hours a day.

  2. The majority of the shops close at 6 mainly because the people in the shops have lifes to and wanna get home and all the rest but if ur looking for shops that open later Dundrum shopping centre opens till 9 Monday - Friday and The square shopping centre in tallaght open till 9 on Wednesday-Friday.

  3. ah cos we believe in having lives and not working every hour god sends, and if we had our way we prob wouldnt work weekends either well i know i wouldnt

  4. Cause at nite time we like to go out and PARTY
