  1. all above correct. If you arent flying the plane its kind of fun to see what happens with low air pressure. If you ever get a chance to go into a hypo-baric altitude chamber, do it.

  2. You already knew the answer.  Why ask?

  3. if the mother passes out from a lack of oxygen, how is the infant supposed to put on its mask? logic says that the one most capable must be the responsible party, thus mom gets her mask on first, and then puts the babys mask on.

  4. Because you will be fine if you pass out briefly, but you can't take care of the baby; the adult must remain conscious.

  5. nope you first. if you pass out before you can get the baby's mask on, he/she can't help herself/himself. the baby may go to sleep if you take too much time putting your mask on but no harm done. just get the mask on as soon as you can.

  6. Mother need oxygen to stay awake and calm, THEN she put mask on baby. If baby first and mother pass out, no more mama for baby! It make sense to smart people, dummy no understand. You understand now?

Better mama with no baby than baby and no mama.

  7. Because at altitude one has about 30 seconds of consciousness.  (More if one has good aerobic capacity, less if one's out of shape.)  Fear and anxiety will also use up O2-faster, shallower breathing etc.  In that 30 seconds or less, by putting your mask on first, you buy some time to fit the baby's mask.   The baby needs less O2 than you do, so can handle the extra few seconds until masked.

By the way, the masks are designed to keep you alive until a breathable altitude is reached, not keep you conscious.  They don't fit well enough to allow that (again for most people).

  8. If you try to put the mask on your baby first but pass out in the process then neither of you have oxygen (you can be out in less than 20 seconds if there is a rapid decompression at high altitude).

If you put your mask on first, your child may have to wait an extra 10 seconds (and may even pass out) but you will ensure that you are physically able to get a mask on your child.

  9. A mother should see to herself first. Once she has her oxygen mask in place she will be able to breathe, then she will be clear headed while she places the mask on the child. She might pass out from lack of oxygen if she tries for place the mask on the child first.

If there is a problem that causes the masks to fall, a child will be scared. They might scream & cry & not be willing to have a mask put over their face. My leading by example, putting the mask of your own face first, you might be able to calm the child. It would be difficult to fight with your child to place the mask while you are blacking out from lack of oxygen.

A child also uses less oxygen than an adult & can survivie longer than the adult at low pxygen levels.

Ask yourself, who will save my child if I passout while trying to put the mask on them, because I don't have my mask on?

  10. cos if youre dead you cant help yourself or the baby

  11. because if the mother is busy putting the mask on a child  then the mother runs a higher risk of passing out, the child can then remove the mask and now both mom and child's life are at risk. but if mom puts hers on first she can remain alert enough to take care of the child and herself.

  12. infant can not don mask, you don mask then you can mask infant, If you attempt infant first and fail you both die, infant is likely to be a little harder to mask than donning your own mask

  13. It is a matter of common sense, in the lowest form.  This adequately answers the question at hand.
