  1. Chalk that one up to the 9/11 terrorists that used student

visas to enter the United States under flase pretenses.

Things have tightened up since then, sorry to say for the

legitimate students that want to see and experience this

wonderful country of ours. But take heart It took us 400

years to get this country the way it is and when you get

here a month's time will seem worth the wait

  2. Because too many were arriving months early, getting "temporary" jobs, and then forgetting to go to school.

For a serious student, 30 days is plenty.

  3. This is due to the tricky immigration rules. Certain legislation has decided upon these dates for unknown reasons to me. The foreign student must also leave after a certain period when they conclude their schooling domestically.

  4. Because the US doesn't need you galavanting around the country when you should be in school. You came to the US on a student visa not a tourist visa...go to school and be a good student. We don't need you running around where we can't find you.

  5. Why would you need more time that 30 days?  The 30 day period is to help you find an apartment, attend orientation, get a driver's license, etc.  The student visa is to study.  If you want to tour, you should get a B-2 visa.  As an F-1, you'll get vacations in December for about a month, a Spring Break for a week in March, three months in the summer are optional, and a Thanksgiving Break in November.  Plus, when your program is over, you have 60 days to leave the country which is plenty to tour around.
