  1. If not outside sources, then what? Hmmm?

  2. Only organisms that have chlorophyll or similar pigments can build up their own food (by photosynthesis).

Mold is a fungus and lacks chlorophyll. It is therefore a heterotroph and depends on outer sources for its survival.

In fact spores of mold will only grow into mold if they settle on a suitable food source such as bread. Their digestion is also external. Enzymes are released o the outside and digested food is absorbed into the mold.

  3. Why do you rely upon an outside source of food even if you garden and grow your own plants?  Both you and molds are heterotrophs, organisms that need existing complex organic molecules in their diet to survive.  Molds and all other heterotrophs have to have complex organic molecules in their diets.

  4. look at the cellular makeup of mold.

what does it lack that all other cells have?
