The age dosent matter its if you know how to drive and ready for the expereince.

Why do you have to think the age matters?

I seen plenty with pepole 10 times older. than 17.

Though they should take drivers ed class longer wouldnt hurt.

  1. most people think the age is too low because most accidents are caused by people ages 16 to 19. but if the age was changed to 20 (or higher) there would be just as many accidents but they would be caused by people aged 20 to 23. too many old people dont remember how important driving is, and they hate that young people have more fun than them.

  2. Here is a very good reason....................

    MARCH 2008

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among 15- to 20-year olds.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, 3,490 drivers in this age group died in motor vehicle crashes in 2006 and an additional 272,000 were injured.

Drivers age 15- to 20-years old accounted for 12.9 percent of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes and 16 percent of all the drivers involved in police-reported crashes.

Twenty-five percent of teen drivers killed were intoxicated. In 2002 (latest data available) the estimated economic cost of police-reported crashes involving drivers between the ages of 15 and 20 was $40.8 billion, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov ).

Among licensed drivers, young people between the ages of 15 and 20 have the highest rate of fatal crashes relative to other age groups, including the elderly. In fact, the risk of being involved in a fatal crash for teens is three times greater than for drivers age 65 to 69.

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens.

  3. Because of the accidents that young people cause.

In my opinion age doesnt matter, its just the law that makes it that way

  4. i think 16 or 17 is just the perfect age.

i also think everybody should be retested after about 5 years so they can still be able to do everything right and correctly

as you get older you should be driving 20 times better until a certain age

  5. Age only matters because of the maturity of the driver. Most teens get in accidents not because of there ability but because of their lack of fear and arrogance. On average a younger driver would be naturally more skilled than an older one. The generally have better coordination, quicker reflexes, and better eye sight. But, like I said they get to cocky and overestimate their skill level. Also younger drivers tend to try and show off by pushing their car to it's limits. This is why they have more accidents on average then older drivers. So I don't think the driving age is too low in regards to driving ability. But as far as maturity and responsibility goes teens on average are just not up to par
