  1. These programs are designed to create a bond.  If you want mutual respect the police and community members need to know each other to create that.  Otherwise you end up with everyone blaming the other for problems in the community.  

    If your child sees you having a friendly conversation with local officers and saying "hello" the behavior is likely to be imitated.  Where if they hear you call them names and disrespect them, well that behavior is likely imitated as well.
