Question:

Why must your seatbelt remain fastened until the plane comes to a "complete stop"?

I've flown many times and every time when the aeroplane has landed, the flight crew intercoms, "Welcome to x*x..... ... for your safety, please leave your seatbelt fastened until the seatbelt sign has been switched off", and the sign switches off when the plane has parked at the terminal.

i see (or actually hear) many people unbuckling their seatbelts right after the plane has completed its landing and is moving towards the terminal. why? surely it must have something to do with safety reasons...

  1. suppose there is an emergency braking

    you may injure your self

  2. it's mostly an insurance *** covering exercise for the company to make sure they're not sued if some stupid person gets up and gets hurt.

  3. My guess is that it is a result of the aircraft accident with the most fatalities, in the actual aircraft, occurring with the collusion of a taxiing aircraft with one taking off.

  4. You might die.

  5. well, maybe because of the so-called "air traffic" haha... there might be something like collissions???! kidding... Hmm... Because the plane might be heading downward later and you might slip in the floor... (I think) *_*

  6. Yeah, some people think they are smart, and unbuckling the seatbelt might get them out of the plane faster.  Of course, then the plane stops and everyone who gets up first has to stand there for five minutes anyway.  It's difficult to believe that you were just going 500 mph, and now you're in a hurry?  The people who take the belt off are breaking the law, and could be fined.  They are also taking their lives into their own hands, as you are more likely to have a ground collision than one in flight.  There are a lot of trucks and other aircraft that you could hit on the ground, and your seatbelt might just save your life.  I can also hear them unbuckling up in the cockpit, and I sometimes stop and tell them to buckle up again before we can move.  I can get in trouble for that, and so can they.

  7. if the pilot has to stop suddenly to avoid someting on the ground, you will be the first one to dive head first into the person in fron of you. in air it is even worse, if you get turbulance, then it is very easy to bump your head against the roof of the plane. remember the plane is a moving object, you are sitting there and you are not part of it, so if the plane stops you will carry on in that direction unless you are buckled

  8. Simply so you can't sue for whiplash injuries because you were supposed to have your seatbelt on.  I've been on a flight where the pilot had to brake HARD to avoid a plane taking off or landing while we were crossing the runnaways at ATL.  The few people that I saw unbuckle their belts immediately rebuckled their belts because of this.

  9. It is a faa regulation with safety in mind

§ 91.107   Use of safety belts, shoulder harnesses, and child restraint systems.

    <snip>

    2) No pilot may cause to be moved on the surface, take off, or land a U.S.-registered civil aircraft (except a free balloon that incorporates a basket or gondola, or an airship type certificated before November 2, 1987) unless the pilot in command of that aircraft ensures that each person on board has been notified to fasten his or her safety belt and, if installed, his or her shoulder harness.

    (3) Except as provided in this paragraph, each person on board a U.S.-registered civil aircraft (except a free balloon that incorporates a basket or gondola or an airship type certificated before November 2, 1987) must occupy an approved seat or berth with a safety belt and, if installed, shoulder harness, properly secured about him or her during movement on the surface, takeoff, and landing. For seaplane and float equipped rotorcraft operations during movement on the surface, the person pushing off the seaplane or rotorcraft from the dock and the person mooring the seaplane or rotorcraft at the dock are excepted from the preceding seating and safety belt requirements.

  10. Some of the worst aircraft accidents occur on the ground. It is not just because of FAA regs or insurance. It's because it's not safe.

  11. for your safety, don't go doing thesame thing you won't get paid because you're unbuckled.

  12. Yeah I notice too when it's moving to the terminal. Obviously they are deaf and stupid and probably have mroe chance of dying than you. Also just incase of collision like what someone else sa id

  13. It's just in case the plane hits something while taxiing, or has to stop suddenly for some reason.

It doesn't seem like anything would happen to you if the plane stopped suddenly -- but trust me, you'll splat right against the back of the seat in front of you if you're not buckled up.

    .

  14. because some dipshit somewhere got up before the plane completely stopped, hurt himself, and sued the airline because they didn't tell him not to get up while the plane was moving.
