Why my Canon FS100 has this reformat question? New to this high tech.?

my new canon camcorder use a SDHC card but in the camcorder, it's ask for reformat.I'm new to this thing. I thought just put in the SDHC in my canon and shoot just like my old Hi 8 camcorder. It's sound so complicated.

  1. You don't need to reformat your card after each use. As long as you delete the old images there's no need to format.

    My guess is that your SD card is new. If that's the case then your camera needs to format it before its first use. Formatting will set up the files system so that it can be used by your camera. Put your card in, let it format and then you should be good to go.


  2. After you copy your video to your computer, you need to format the memory card to refresh it ... so you can shoot additional images on the card ... unlike tape which you can record over, you have to format the memory card each time you use it to produce new video.  If you have ever used a P&S camera you will notice that the memory card has to be formatted as well once you have copied the image files to your computer.
