Why my car dont have alot of power when im driving up the hill i mean it gets up there but not like every

body else car do. i have a 1989 ford thunderbird lx v6 3.8 i just changed the oil and spark plugs and air filter plus oil about a month and half ago

  1. well you see you made the mistake of buying a ford. but really it could be a few things. is it running on all six cyl because if you just did plugs there could be a fuel problem


  2. Do you mean that you are slowing down or do you mean that your car is making less horsepower.

    I would guess it is the first guess of just slowing down. When going up a hill, you are working against gravity, so you will slow down because your car has to work harder. Try giving it more throttle (press harder on the gas pedal).

    If it is the latter (which I doubt), you may be having some problems with the fuel pump. If the fuel pump is at the front of the tank and you are going up steep hills and your tank is not full (like maybe half to 1/4 tank) the pump may not be able to get any fuel to pump because gravity is pulling all the fuel to the rear of the tank. You can fix that by making sure you have a full-ish tank.

  3. catalytic converter is plugged if you lose power going up a hill

  4. Try turning off the A/C - old 6's and new 4's perform a lot better without the drag of the compressor.
