Question:

Why my neighbor's AC is always running?

I live in Ontario, the summer here is relatively cold. One day I hired an house inspector, he peeked into my neighbor's AC and gave me a funny smile and asked how big is his house. Well, barely 2000 sql feet. He told me that the AC my neighbor got is at least two times oversized. That rings a bell to me since then. What's even interesting now is that the oversized AC rarely stops running. Even it's only 18 degree Celsius and crispy outside, the AC could run nonstop for 3 to 5 hours. It's very noisy due to the oversized compressor, especially in a cold and quiet night, it also sounds very stupid, since only this single AC is running in the big community. If the AC is functional, the house must be really freezing. The house owner looks normal to me, I think he is a vet, they have two kids. What they are doing?

  1. ???? call police

  2. Maybe you should ask if they have thought about solar power to run their AC...It is also possible a family member has a medical problem that requires conditioned air.  It may not be all that cold that would be determined how low they have the settings...Just be glad it is not you that has to pay for that.

  3. His unit could be low on refrigerant, clogged filters, or otherwise have a maintenance or mechanical problem that is causing it to run very inefficiently.  Since your area cooling needs are modest, he may be getting adequate cooling, but at a high price.

Sounds like he could well afford to get it checked out, the price of a service call and, if it's a simple fix, would pay for itself fairly quickly.

  4. Hummm a vet keeping his house abnormally cold. Are you sure he doesn't sell meat as a sideline.Maybe he is butchering all the dogs and cats he puts down :) Or maybe there is a problem with it.

  5. keeping dead bodies in their house...

  6. It could be a heat pump. The compressor would run in all seasons.
