My car is a 2003 mustang convertible gt. with factory mach sound system,I replace the old speakers( they were working properly),and installed 6x8 kenwood 3 way speakers, now they stop playing when I turn on the volume and only at certain songs, they start playing and turning off again several times within the same song;check wire for lose or breaks and is fine and after checking a few times I weld everything.can you connect the wires in the wrong place?

  1. if i'm right, i think the stock speakers are rockford fosgate speakers. the kenwoods are weak and the amp keeps on clipping. see what the power is on the old speakers and buy something with same handling. if you want to put speakers that are more powerful you'll need to bypass the factory amp and install a more powerful amp.

    * make sure the polarity of the inputs are correct on the speaker terminals

  2. Perhaps there's a circuit breaker preventing your amp from overworking and therefore shutting it off temporarily. . . .do the wattage of the speakers and amp match?

  3. What kind of gauge wire do you use from the battery to the power amp?  Your wire should be as thick as your battery wire with a fuse next to it. And where's your amp ground to? Your amp, at best, should be mounted directly to the body with all four screws.  This way the power amp should stay and operate cool, but not hot.  When you turn up your radio, and it shut off, is there a lot of bass?  Or is it every song?  Hope that I could help. Good luck!
