Why my sri lankan passport states my first name as my surname which is wrong?

as every sri lankan i have a long name with my 'ge' name first and two other names and finally my surname. but in my passport they have put my first name( ge name ) as my surname. this is so very confusing as im living abroad at the moment and face too many confusion as a result.

i know my wife and more of my friend in here face the same situation. just want to know the reason for this if some body can explain or face the same situation pls reply.

  1. It could just be that the person doing the paper work is not familiar enough with Sri Lankan names. I'm pretty sure you should be able to get it fixed, contact the Sri Lankan embassy in the country you are living and they may be able to tell you how to get it fixed.

    If it is happening often it might be worth sending a suggestion to your countries passport issuing authority, saying the spaces for the names need to be more clear.

    I have a few Sri Lankan friends and they all shortened their names (similar to Australian nicknames) when they came to Australia. I know this helped the younger children when being introduced in new schools (eg Anurahda became Anu).


  2. Oh my!!!!!!  An actual error occurred, whoever did that should be  sentenced to life in prison or worse!
