  1. it was named after a famous french fighter pilot. he was a hero to the french and almost like an icon to the people.  they felt the urge to name something important after him.

  3. I remember reading it at the official tennis website and it was named after a person. Roland Garros was supposedly the man who brought back the statue of the three musketeers from the US to France.

  4. Because France was the defending champion of the Davis Cup in 1927 so the french wanted to win again. Rene Lacoste, Jean Borotra, Henri Cochet, and Jacques Brugnon were the four musqueteers of France. As Roland Garros was the person bringing the Musqueteers statue back home, they decided to build a court named after him.
