  1. Of course natural calamities occur in all areas of the earth, but the sheer size of asia is key to the answer. It is the largest landmass, has areas of continental plate subduction, adjoins the ring of fire volcanic area of the Pacific as well as adjoins both the far north (cold) and the tropics(hot) so there are continual weather issues-like typhoons. The high population also is key to the "Calamity" because storms and earthquakes in unpopulated areas are not really big news.

  2. Natural calamities occur wherever you have the right ingredients. Coasts get hit with hurricanes, fault lines have earthquakes, etc. Of course if they hit an area that isn't heavily populated it's less of a problem, and if local building codes are more stringent that also minimizes damage. Where there isn't a great deal of destruction or loss of life, you're less likely to hear about the event. For instance, huge earthquakes hit Alaska on a regular basis, but there aren't a billion people living there.

  3. Typhoons

  4. Asia is the largest continent, containing over 29% of the world's landmass.  The bigger a country is the more likely some catastrophe will occur there, whether the disaster is caused by weather, or geology.  Furthermore, Asia has 60% of the world's human population, so when disaster strikes more people are affected by it.

This year the U.S. has had much more death and destruction from tornadoes than usual, but the numbers are miniscule compared with the Chinese earthquake, or the Myanmar cyclone.
