Why nbc only covers few sports in olympics? many sports are never shown?

Question

Mostly swimming, gymnastics and track/field is shown on nbc. But there are a whole lot of more sports which are never shown.

For example I would have liked to see weightlifting, shooting, boxing, field hockey, archery, sailing, soccer etc etc.

So what if in some sports USA does not participate? I still like to watch some of those sports where US doesn't participate. However, it was never shown. I don't think that is fair.

There needed to be variety, and it was never shown by nbc.

They are shown on NBC affiliates.....they have 3 other stations that show them. CNBC, MSNBC and USA.

Try USA, MSNBC, CNBC and Oxygen.  They are all showing those sports.  They are all part of the NBC network, so NBC is actually showing them.

You need to watch the other NBC channels, not just NBC main channel.  You can't expect NBC to air the olympics 24x7.  I'd say coverage of this Olympics has been spectacular.  I'm an archer, and I've never seen so much coverage of my sport in years.  You just have to know where to look.  They only air the finals on USA, at 1am.  But you can catch many of the elimination rounds online on nbcolympics.com.

They cover what will get them the best ratings. The could not care less about what the public actually wants.  Coverage of this olympics was poor all the way around I think.

I agree, and I've never seen so much lopsidedness. It didn't used to be that way. Used to, they'd even show whitewater kayaking. I don't even know if it's a sport anymore. All we're seeing is volleyball, gymnastics, and track and field. Every freakin preliminary.

They like to show sports that are more popular and has US participation. Its probably because they make more money like that because if the sport was not popular their would be fewer viewers. But you can watch alot of live events on their website at nbcolympics.com

Turn on CNN lol they broadcast everything else almost, and still show boxing, unless it finished today
