Why no heavy lifting while pregnant?

i have read articles that say its okay to lift if your muscles are used to it. i know recommended is no more than 20-25 lbs. people seem to trip when i lift even a grocery bag that's only ten lbs.

i want to know what actually happens inside the body when too much weight is lifted and where can i find this proof cuz so far i haven't found anything on the internet about dislodging or crushing the baby or placenta, etc.

( i don't strain myself. i do normal activities and don't lift more than i did before the pregnancy and usually no lifting pushing or pulling of more than 25-30 lbs)

  1. You should be fine.  People are overly paranoid.  You'll also find out when you have your baby, people will insist you don't have enough clothes on them, feed them enough,  etc..  Just tune them out.

What can happen is that you can pull and stretch too much and there is a chance that you can pull the umbilical cord away from the placenta.

  2. I never knew how ignorant people could be about pregnancy (not you lol but some of these answers)

YOu can do anyhting you've done before, but to much physical activity can cause contractions. Not saying they will do anything, but they are uncomfortable and "could" put you into early labor. My guess would be you would have to be close to due date for that to happen though.

  3. I asked my doctor about this, and she said it is mostly because they don't want you to hurt your back.

  4. Most movement stems from your core. That is where your baby is. When your body lifts something heavy this area contracts and blood is pushed to places it was not before. If you are far along, it could start labor early. The point of them telling you this is that it is not worth risking the health of your child over the movement of a bag of groceries. Thank them for being concerned. Nothing worst then a stubborn preggo. *wink*

  5. muscle contractions, your baby just plops out on the floor.

  6. I was told I could do anything I could do pre-pregnancy at this point and haven't been advised yet at the doctors regarding anything about lifting.

I do know when I pick up something too heavy, I FEEL it. It pulls my muscles in my lower abs. I guess cause they are stretching right and sensitive.

  7. Lifting to much while pregnant can put strain on you internally, causing bleeding, hemorrhaging, or even miscarriage.

I was even told no bath tubs, hot tubs or swimming pools, because it relaxes those muscles and can make someone at risk already for susceptible of having a miscarriage.

  8. high chance of hernia which could really hurt the baby.

high chance that you can throw out your back ,. pull muscles, etc

  9. You baby could get hurt by the pressure and have birth defects or something

  10. the umbilical cord can get wrapped around the babys neck if you life too much

  11. I think it's more about the risk of falling over and hurting the baby.

  12. i think most of it is like back strain. I really don;t kno what it can do to the baby though.

  13. herneaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  14. the baby will pop out

  15. I don't know if this is common or not but...during my ninth month I was nesting and I decided to rearrange furniture.  Two days later I had to rush to the hospital because I started hemorrhaging.  Turns out I had a placental abruption.  The dr said they really don't know what causes it but I do wonder if it was all that lifting and pushing.
