Why no news lately on global warming?

In my opinion the liberal media and that fraud Al Gore can't sell the lie when winter storms are tearing across the US weekly and record cold temperatures are being set. China is having its coldest, worst winter in a 100 years.

These are my best answers does anyone else have an answer?

  1. remember all that nonsense some years back about an impending ice age?

  2. You mean liberals like these?

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

"Pat Robertson (very conservative Christian leader) 'It is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air.  We really need to do something on fossil fuels.”

"I believe there is now more than enough evidence of climate change to warrant an immediate and comprehensive - but considered - response. Anyone who disagrees is, in my view, still in denial."

Ford Motor Company CEO William Clay Ford, Jr.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

Global warming is not a blowtorch that eliminates winter. It's a small but steady increase in AVERAGE temperature that will cause great damage if we do nothing.

For a short time, in some places, winter weather can overcome global warming. But, long run, over the whole Earth, the AVERAGE temperature is increasing. NASA data:

    http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/2007/

We need to do something about that.

As for news, how about the 50,000 scientists of the American Geophysical Union saying global warming is real, and mostly caused by us?

  3. Global Warming hibernates during the winter

  4. No news lately = It's not actually happening.

  5. The American public has a short attention span and easily becomes bored with things.

It's definitely the county of " The flavor of the week".

This is not new...ever though it has gotten worse...even World War II was becoming boring as it went on too long. True story

But... it will be back and will have to be dealt with.

What kind of global warming news do you think there is? Do you want someone to just make something up? If there is no news  then there is no news.

  6. Right now the media has to go with top sellers-Clinton & obama.

    NYC snow:

    "Storm of February 2006

Record-breaking snowfall blanketed New York City on February 11 and 12, 2006. Measurements taken in Central Park showed that 26.9 inches had accumulated by the storm's end. The snow fell for over 24 hours, and meterologists classified the storm as a nor'easter with winds about 20-30 mph.

In the city, the Department of Sanitation worked around the clock to remove snow from roads and walkways. The City deployed 2,500 workers to cover 12-hour shifts to handle snow clean-up.

With 25.4 inches of snow reported at LaGuardia Airport, hundreds of flights at both LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy Airports were canceled. Long Island Railroad temporarily stopped service into and out of Penn Station; Metro-North service shut down for part of the day; extensive subway delays were seen mostly on the 2, 4, 5, L and M lines; New York City's Bus service was running at 50% capacity. Despite the transportation interruptions, no serious storm-related injuries occurred.

    President's Day Storm 2003

Nearly two feet of snow blanketed the New York City area following the President's Day storm of Feb. 17, 2003, which claimed 42 lives nationwide, stranded thousands of travelers, and cost the City $20 million.

Two deaths in the metropolitan area were attributed to the storm, including a man who died of carbon monoxide poisoning while he was warming up his car, and a man killed when a roof collapsed under the weight of the snow.

Major airports along the eastern seaboard — including LaGuardia Airport — shut down, while Kennedy and Newark Airports issued extensive flight cancelations. Bus service was halted in and out of Port Authority Bus Terminal, while Metro-North, Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, and Amtrak trains ran with scattered delays.

    Blizzard of 1996

Dumping more than 20 inches of snow in Central Park, the blizzard of Jan. 7-8, 1996, marked the second biggest snowstorm in New York City history. With winds gusting to more than 50 miles an hour, the powerful nor'easter caused widespread power outages, scores of fatalities and $1 billion in damages from Washington, D.C. to Boston.

Thousands of travelers were stranded at City airports, bus terminals, and highway rest stops as transportation ground to a halt. On Jan. 8, New York City public and parochial schools were ordered closed, several Broadway shows canceled performances, and the New York Stock Exchange had a short day.

Dozens of deaths were attributed to the storm, including a Connecticut man and two New Jersey men who suffered heart attacks while shoveling snow.

As 26,528 tons of salt was spread on City roads, snow was hauled to designated vacant lots and parking areas or dumped into the East and Hudson Rivers. By the end of the 1995-1996 winter season, New York City had experienced 16 snowstorms and recorded more than 89 inches of snow.

    Blizzard of 1947

Dropping 26.4 inches of snow in Central Park, the blizzard of 1947 still holds rank as the biggest snowstorm in New York City history. As moisture in the Gulf Stream fed the storm's energy, the City was paralyzed when the blizzard barreled its way through, stranding cars and buses in the streets, halting subway service, and claiming 77 lives.

    Blizzard of 1888

With 21 inches of snow falling over a two-day period — the third largest accumulation on record — the blizzard of 1888 hit New York City by surprise at the end of a warm March day. As two storms, one approaching from the south and one from the north, met over the City, heavy precipitation and winds gusting up to almost 75 mph resulted in snowdrifts up to 30 feet high. Roads and highways were blocked, steam train service was suspended, horse-drawn streetcars and taxis halted operations, and ships docked in New York's harbor.

A New York Central locomotive derailed while attempting to push past snow drifts in the 4th Avenue tunnel, and many commuters were stranded on elevated tracks in unheated cars. It took 14 days for the City to completely recover. The mayor responded in early 1889 by ordering all overhead wires placed underground."

Seems to me that NYC has gotten plenty of snow over the years.  You're not going to have a blizzard every year, but you're going to get a lot over the course of time.

  8. Agreed.  It's too frickin' cold across the USA for them to sell their B.S.

International Falls, MN has a new record low of 40 BELOW zero.  It's officially the Icebox of the World.  Also, Madison, WI (Lib Central) hit a new record for snowfall with 73 inches this Winter.

  9. i think that it is just because we have heard, er, well, not too much about it, but it is just too common on the news. i think that they are holding up on it untill scientists discover something big that has to do with it like a good way to prevent it or something like that.

  10. Government propaganda machine only uses that when they want to distract us from something they are doing...global warming is real though, but if they thought we were really going to be afraid they would never mention it.  Can't scare the masses you know...

  11. He already won the Nobel peace prize. You dont keep campaigning after you have won. and whats so peaceful about that anyway?

  12. It's a complicated issue that requires long term research, it's not some corporate marketing strategy or political plot designed for splashy weekly headlines.  Some weeks or months we'll hear little, some we'll see several new papers.

So in what way would a couple of incidences of cold weather indicate anything about long term climate trends?.

  13. Don't worry.. global warming news will be back. people are more focused on the huge election in the U.S. right now.

  14. because no one cares but the good people in the world i care cause i like polar bears and penguins!!!!

  15. hmm maybe because global warming isn't happening ?

Scientists are now proving that global warming was something that was going to happen anyways , even without our help .

  16. From what I've seen, there is plenty of news about it.  Scientific American just published an article about the acceleration of the sliding ice sheets.  There is a new article out today about Lake Mead drying up and the effects that will have on the Southwest United States.  Another recent article details the future timeline based on scientific opinion of what global warming will bring.

My opinion is that global warming is just as subject to the news cycle as any other topic.  When it first hit the news, everybody was talking and writing about it.  Now it's dropped off to more 'normal' levels as much of the media refocuses on the election here.

Weather extremes-both hot and cold, as well as dry and wet- are indeed part of the global warming scenario, and it is averaged year-round global temperatures over a period of years that tell the story, according to most of the scientific community.  According to this guy who works at the convenience store up town, global warming is a concoction of the 'liberal media' and 'that fraud Al Gore.'  So you know, you're in the company of a guy who makes like seven bucks an hour selling gas and cigarettes at least.

  17. The same reason there are problems doing news stories about how we are losing the Iraq War.

  18. There is lots of news. TV, magazines, web, all over the place. And just look at all the global warming questions and answers posted in the last 10 minutes here on Answers. Where have you been, in a cave?

  19. Maybe they're all just "burnt out on it." haha.

But really... global warming isn't just warmth. it's an atmospherical instability. It goes for EXTREMES. that means extreme strip-everything-off summers and six-different-coats winters. The cold air has to go SOMEWHERE... and especially this winter, the whole country's thermostat is stuck on Deep Freeze. This summer will be excruciating, being way hotter then it should be, and then it'll get killer cold again and i'll be back here to answer it again. Those are my viewpoints. Take them with a grain of salt, and enjoy.

  20. probly said to much of it and now sick of saw it that many times

  21. Because I don't believe there ever was a problem with global warming.  It's just something they fabricated.

global warming as they say it is not man created.  It is a natural cycle of events that happens, it happened before, it may be happening now, and it will happen again in the future.  It's cycle just like the changing of the seasons.

Therefore-there is nothing that we can do to change the inevitable as we didn't start it.
