  1. For the most part, they're not. Most gas taxes are a fixed amount per gallon, regardless of the overall price. The federal tax is 18.4 cents/gallon, state taxes range from 8 cents/gal in Alaska to 32 cents/gal in New York.

A few states also charge sales tax on gas, but that's the same tax you pay on everything else you buy.

  2. Hi,

I have for a good many years.  The US Government is the biggest recipient of tax monies from all fossil fuels.  Now you know why they don't try to cap or control the cost of fuel.  It would be like killing the goose that laid the golden egg.  And heaven forbid if the promote none taxable energy sources like solar or wind.  Is the government really looking out for us tax payers.... I think not!  All they want is your Tax monies, and they won't promote systems that can't be taxed.  It's not in their best interest to do so.  Simple truth, but man does it hurt.

Time to get off the grid!

  3. Isnt it sad that in some states gas is just about the same price as min. wage? I find that crazy and I dont know how any one can survive on it.

  4. Because we already know that taxes are included in the price of gas.
