  1. Because it is illegal to take what you did not create/design.

You stole the work of the designer.

As I said many times, on here it is illegal to purchase counterfeit jewelry, purses, etc., unless you want to go to jail.

Illegal buyers were buying fake goods, thereby, denying the creator of the original Tiffany jewelry, their intellectual property.

It means, you can't steal what was created/designed by another company/person and sell it on the streets in the USA, as, it is illegal and if caught one can go to jail.

Imagine how you would feel if you created something and someone stole your idea and sold it for one-penny, when it actually retailed for $600,000.  You would not be a happy camper.

Imagine how you would feel if you designed a handbag and you found it selling in China Town for $1.50, you would not be happy.

Perhaps this will teach people a lesson, DO NOT STEAL.

When I worked in Intellectual Property, I often had to run to Chinatown, and wait for a police officer to escort  me, to where customers were waiting to illegally purchase a fake L.V designer purse, and other fake designer goods created by our high-end designer clients
