Why not burn oil shale rock in its natural form like coal to produce energy?

  1. The fuel would be contained in rock.  To burn it, you would have to heat the rock which would waste energy.  In addition, shale is not very permeable so the fuel wouldn't burn very well or thoroughly.


  2. Too much of it's material will not burn for it to be a decent fuel.
