Question:

Why not control population to help with Global Warming?

Governments are reluctant to agree to stringent standards that would help reduce global warming because it would hamper their country's development. I know some religions would be completely against birth control, but other than that why not reduce the rate at which populations grow? I know that government control over something as essential as the right to have children would be extremely controversial, but then so is possible death from global warming.

  1. It is amusing how many people avoided this question.  You have to read some Pro-environmental books to fully understand the benefits of limiting the population.

You spotted the #1 problem, religious groups aren't for it and will deny everything.  everything.

    my 2cents.

  2. Yes, you have a good idea.

But unfortunately it has a lot of negative social stigma.  This is largely true because of China.  In China they passed the “one child rule”.  It was working, for a while.  Unfortunately it lead to murder.  The problem is, with family names.  Having a girl meant that a couples’ family name came to an end.  Many parents chose to kill their daughters, and claim that the baby died of “crib death”.  Today China has a shortage of young ladies because of this.  The fact that China has a shortage of ladies is not a big deal.  So, the “one child rule” was a compete failure.

A better solution is to take away tax benefits for parents.  Do as much as possible to financially discourage procreation.  This will help curb the growing population, without encouraging parents to commit murder.  Limiting the number of children someone can have is a violation of “pursuit of happiness”.  However making it financially less attractive, will accomplish the same thing, and not violate anyone’s’ rights.

I hope the governments to the latter.  I don’t have kids, and don’t want them.
