I am in no way opposing the right to peacefull demonstrations and protests, that is part of our democracy, I am just suggesting that the annual meeting, which always creates such bedlum, be somewhere that hoodlums, annarchist, and those who just destroy things would not have acces and no specific target place to harm the economy or riot in.

  1. International Organizations, the G8 included, have this dual need for people to support them and feel they are representative and also to get their work done without the hassle of representing people.  They can't go away (say to Doha like the WTO) because that would signal that they do not want to be accessible to groups essential in our liberal democracies (NGOs, social movements, and other activists).  They need to be in places that people can protest in order to claim legitimacy and yet limit those protests to be efficient.

Real question for all us people that believe in democracy: Would we want the G8 to meet on an island where no protests could happen?

  2. There is nothing wrong with people expressing their anger and their right to fight against this flawed and corrupted summit.

  3. The knuckleheads that protest have nothing better to do with themselves and they would find away to protest it no matter where it is

  4. Love it or leave protesting is considered a right.

  5. Each G8 country cherishes the opportunity to host the summit and the worldwide attention it brings - they've no interest in changing it

  6. Were there protests when the G8 was on Sea Island in Georgia in the US a few years back?

  7. Because the places/resorts where they are held are some of the  finest in the world, and evacuation in case of a terrorist attack with the world's 8 most important people would be a nightmare lol
