Question:

Why not just do c-sections all the way?

Since there r c-section births in hospitals, does anyone even bother to do give birth the natural way? and r c-sections less painful and more expensive? It seems like a c-section would be easier on the mother.

This has nothing to do with me or my life its just one of those random questions I was curious about.

  1. NO... a C section is considered major surgery so there are a lot more risks....there  a huge difference in cost since you need more doctors, anesthesia, longer hospital stay etc...

You also have scarring from the incision and recovery is a lot longer so it is harder on the mother, not easier...she is recovering from surgery while taking care of a newborn..

as for pain compared to natural i imagine it is a lot less but you seem to be substituting natural for vaginal and a vaginal delivery with an epidural is probably the closest to painless you can get...

women should only get a c section if the benefits outweigh the risks..

  2. My c-section, before insurance, was a total of around $23,000.  Had I been able to go the natural route, it would have been about $5,000.  Like everyone else is saying, it is MAJOR surgery.  They cut you open, pry and tear your ab muscles apart to get to the uterus, then cut open the uterus to get to the baby.  Then it takes about 45 minutes to put all your organs back in place and stitch you back up.  Not only are c-sections harder on the mother, they are harder on the baby as well.  The operating room has to be kept very cool because if it is really warm, there is a higher risk of the woman bleeding out and dying of too much blood loss.  So the temperature shock is hard on the baby when it first comes out.  Also, as the baby is pushed through the birth canal, the fluids tend to be squeezed out of the nose and breathing passages.  Not so with a c-section.  C-section babies tend to have more breathing problems than babies born naturally.  Any time you can avoid major surgery, you should do so.  Our bodies were made to have babies, not to be cut open.  If we were all meant to birth via c-section, we would have been born with zippers on our stomachs.

  3. I had all three of my kids naturally, sure it was pain full but I feel grateful on knowing what natural childbirth is like!  but i would never want to have a c section its a major sugery and there is more of a chance on getting an infection and it takes longer to heal!

  4. No they are not easier on the mother!  Been there, done that, and don't want to try it again.  Vaginal birth is what the female body was designed to do (granted there are some reasons that it can't, and in those cases thank goodness for medical intervention).

A c-section is NOT less painful, they cut through your stomach muscles.  A vaginal birth only takes a few days to recover from, a c-section takes weeks or months.  Mine was more than 2 years ago and I still have problems sometimes!

  5. No, c-sections are terrible for the mother it is major abdominal surgery. Vaginal is the natural, nature-intended way.  C-sections are less painful, but not afterwards and the recovery takes way longer than vaginal

  6. a c-section is not easier than vaginal birth, the recovery is worst and it is a major surgery, i have to get another one and im terrified of it, i wish i could have a normal delivery but cant

  7. vaginal birth is best. C-section is a MAJOR surgery and has MANY risks. You increase chances for infection and babies not breathing on their own since the fluids are not flushed naturally when they are going through the birth canal. C-Sections leave Huge scars and healing time is longer. Future births can be complicated due to C-sections.

  8. no a cesarean is not the easiest route out you are going to be in more pain after the cesarean. you recover faster after natural birth than a cesarean.

  9. C-sections are not easier on the mother. I'd say more but I don't want to scare anyone who might need a c-section!

They generally require more healing time, and they are most definitely more expensive.

  10. When a C-section is done on you it's not painful, because you are totally drugged up. When the drugs ware off then the pain kicks in. It takes longer to heal when you have a C-Section. You have to really take care of yourself. It's not easy for a mother. Imagine walking bend over for about 2 weeks and taking care of a baby.

  11. A c-section is major surgery and much riskier/more dangerous than a vaginal birth. The recovery time is much longer and more painful.

  12. Because a C-Section is a major surgery.  They cut your body open.  You loose blood and are at risk of infection.  I have had three, and it is not easy on the mother!

  13. I have had 2 not by my choice it is major surgery very painful it takes longer to heal from and it is more expensive its not easier at all.

  14. I work in a hospital, been present for C-sections and spoken to OB docs about this...vaginal births are optimal. C-sections are EXTREMELY invasive. After they cut down to your muscle they actually have to tear you abdominal muscle apart rather than cut it, it heals better this way. Then they are cutting into your uterus and ripping the baby out. Also, when the baby doesn't pass through the birth canal some of the fluid in the lungs can remain trapped..unlike normally being squeezed out during birth.

There are so many more complications, the pain, possible infection in the incision etc. Vaginal birth is preferred.

  15. C sections are much more painful to heal, and are a major surgery.  Your body is made to give birth, its much more natural and less invasive.  C sections should be reserved for cases where they are needed.  No woman should have to go through major abdominal surgery for "convenience"

  16. I had 2 c-sections and 1 natural.  The first one my daughter was breach, my son was a natural delivery, and with my 3rd, my original incision was beginning to open, which is a rare occurrence.  To ME, the c-sections were so painful in recovery and the natural birth had NO pain afterward.  They only do c-sections if there is or has a chance of complications...or if it's chosen for a certain day.  I would rather have a child natural anyday....it leaves no scars like a c-section does.

  17. C-sections are a pretty huge deal, they can lead to complications and really shouldn't be done without a valid reason. Poor Caesar mum's are pretty limited to what they can do after the birth due to the big gash across their tummies.

Vaginal births are a tried and true method. They say that vaginal birth is the most effective way to make sure all the gunk from the babies lungs is squeezed out. They reckon that babies born via cesarean are more likely to develop respiratory problems in early childhood.

We do have a choice though so when the time comes for you to have a baby, you'll be able to make an informed decision along with your doctor and you can choose whatever is right for you.

  18. I think anyone who would contemplate this question should watch The Business of Being Born.  A c-section is no joke, and in my opinion should not be entered into lightly.  I had one that was not my choice, and I am going to do everything in my power to avoid having another the next time around.

  19. C-sections are harder to recover from, take longer to recover, are risky (could lead to having to have a hysterectomy or you could bleed to death).  They are more expensive, you have to take more time off work (if you do work) and have help for a few days after the birth because it is difficult to get around.  It is a very major surgery.  More woman die every year from c-section complications than natural births according to recent studies done in the USA and the US has one of  the highest C-section rates.

  20. Well, like a lot of things there are both pro's and con's to C-sections.  I found an interesting website that goes into this subject in great detail if you are interested.

  21. Usually a c-section is only done if there are complications with the mother or baby. The most common reason I think of having them is that the mothers pelvis won't spread enough for the baby to go through.

  22. C-sections are not easier, whoever told you that doesn't know what they are talking about.

Natural takes less time to recover and you don't get a huge scar that could tare open.

  23. A c-section is a major surgery and there are always risks with surgery. Personally I prefer my natural birth to even having to consider a c-section. Some women do prefer them, but i have seen and heard women that have a lot of pain at the incision sight for well over a month.

  24. No way C-sections are alot harder on the mother than a vaginal birth. Some people need them for various reasons but an elective c section is often a bad idea. It is serious surgery and carries alot of risks. Also the healing time after a c section is a lot longer and harder on the mum than a vaginal birth. It is also much more painful.

  25. A c-section isn't as easy and safe as tv and surgeons make it look. There are a lot of risks with it and it is a major surgery. Ther recovery time is a lot longer and can be really hard when you have a newborn. It leaves scar tissue which can affect some women later in life if they have to have mulitple surgeries. A vaginal birth is just simply the natural way to give birth so is much safer on the body. Not that c-sections are bad but they will always recommend having a vaginal birth first before a c section.
