Why not just do this instead?

I like boxing 100x more than UFC. Simply put I prefer guys who throw punches to KO one another rather than guys getting the other guy to tap out.

Yes sometimes UFC fights are 100x more "electric" than any boxing match.

However the problem I have with UFC is the ground fighting. Yes if you're a fan of MMA or a practitioner of some type of MMA I can see your intrest.

The thing is many people claim UFC ground fighitng is boring, and to me and that group it is. I think that if you want to make a league where it would blow Boxing and UFC out of the water why not just make a MMA league where as soon as they go to the ground for submissions have the ref break it up and stand them up. It's be no holds bar fist flying, kick zooming, and any other type of body part about to hit your opponent.

To me ground fighting is boring and puts me to sleep. If I wanted to watch wresting, I'd put on the WWE.

  1. See I totally disagree, but like you I can't stand the UFC either.  The "Gi' ( Judo/Jujitsu uniform ) should be worn at all MMA fights and this should be a universal rule.  Fighters should only fight on a "mat" not in a cage where they can grab the fense....that fense is stupid and the "mat" should be universal as well.  I don't think that arts like Judo, Jujitsu, Muay Thai and Okinawan Karate to name a few should have their techniques removed by no longer allowing "ground work".  Ground work is one of the truest foundations of all Martial arts and dates back to the time of Japan's" feudal era" samurai.  To take the "Gi" out of MMA was a major mistake from jump street minus the fact that Muay Thai practitioners don't wear them.  There should be a national MMA coucil sat up as well to over see all MMA promoters and their shows via "congressional law" not just some council sat up by private orgs. to further their own goals.  A council made up of all arts with a representative from each art to make up the members of such a council.  I think any one sport based on Mixed Martial Arts like the UFC is doing more damage than good in the long run to all Martial arts.  Corporate interest should never have a place in the martial arts period and the public knows this whether they're ready to admit it or not.  Eventually though the public will stop and say, "Hey I thought the Martial Arts were about honor, integrity, family, God, nation and community?"  then not only will the UFC suffer, but all arts will suffer in the long run from one organization running it all like the UFC mostly does.  I totally disagree with the UFC on all that it does, but I don't think that the "Mixed Martial Arts" should have to suffer in general because of "Commericalized MMA"  it's almost too commercialized these days and I think that a great many people will be turned off by it in the near future.  I just hope that they're not turned off by the "martial arts" completely because of the UFC's corporate greed.

  2. Im pretty sure they have a league like this but its not as big as UFC, i used to think the way you do as well but right now when I watch boxing matches in my mind im starting to think "take him down, take him down, kick him!  man!" so you can say UFC ruined other arts for me

  3. So kickboxing? To most people who are new to MMA, the ground fighting may be boring. But thats because most people don't understand the complexity and skill it takes. When I first watched UFC i was like wtf is this. Then i started to listen to the commentators to try to understand what they are doing, and i kinda started to get it. When you no nothing about wrestling (real no pile drivers and 20 foot jumps off ladders) it makes it harder to enjoy.

  4. It's a sport, man. Take it for what it is. It's not mixed martial arts; it's not even martial arts. It's not jiu jutsu - it's not even brazilian jiujutsu. It's sloppy, borrowed and half learned techniques used by guys who want nothin more than to smash another person into a bloody mess. There's no skill in it - anyone that claims to be a martial artist and gets so winded that their strikes lose all strength 40 seconds into a round should be laughed out of the arena.

They're fighters, and good fighters at that. But there's a world, a WORLD of difference between a fighter and a martial artist. Just put it in perspective and you won't be so bothered by it anymore. It's a sport for violent people who feel like they've gotta prove everything to everyone. Let them do what they want, and do what you want.

  5. People who are not into baseball say the same thing about baseball. but those that know the game and have played it know that it isn't boring.

The ground fighting looks boring to some because they don't understand what the fighters are dong when it looks like there doing nothing. But once you learn the game and positions along with all of the options to reverse their position then it will not be so boring.

When  a person gets knock out I'm not that surprised or impressed. But when a fighter taps out it is great because it's the ultimate, legitimate domination over the fighter who submits by the fighter who applied the submission.

Then again; to each his own , we all have different likes and dislikes.

  6. i understand what your saying, but in mma we are trying to see who can overall fight better and in boxing they are just seeing who can box better, there is a difference, no mma is not the exact same as a street fight, but take away the gloves and a few rules and it is the exact same, and in a street fight alot of times it does go to the ground and thats why they do fight on the ground to prove whos the better fighter not just standing up but all around, and alot of people like it just because it reminds them of a real street fight and it gets them kind of pumped up and others just dont understand

  7. I don't know, back in the day UFC ground fighting was boring, but now if they sit inactive the ref stands them up. Now ground fighting is full of punches, elbows, and some great submissions.

People want to see the best fighters.  And the reality of it is a pure boxer would be destroyed in the UFC and everyone knows it.  That's why boxing is dying out and MMA is shooting up.

They have a sport like you describe.  It's called San Shou.  Basically kickboxing with throws.  Cung Le used to be the face of it in America.  But it never went anywhere because MMA was so much more fun to watch so now Cung fights MMA.

You might like the K-1.  It is also being replaced by MMA but might make it a few years longer.  It's the premier kickboxing league in the world.
