Why not use galvanized pipe with gas lines?

I would like to know why it is not recommended to use galvanized pipe with a gas line.

  1. the galvanizing flakes off and will get clogged in orifices


  2. the plating of the galvanised pipe would wear of someday. So it's not wise to use them. If the plating wears out and leaves the metal exposed to air, chemical reaction would take place depending on the metal used.

  3. I will hazard a guess.

    Anytime two different metals contact each other their is an potential difference (voltage) across the two materials. This is how batteries work. This is also why they galvanise steel. The zinc acts as a donor of electrons and stops the iron from corroding.

    It is not usually wise to introduce electrical currents near a combustible fuel. period.

    Thats my guess.
