Question:

Why not use memory cards to save text files instead of floppies?

I'm wondering if there's any downside to it. Suppose you want to save an html or a pdf document that has text and photos, or add a text file to a collection of photos stored on a memory card. So why not use a memory card as an all-purpose storage device? It can go from the camera to the MP3 player to the printer to the computer without any fuss. I don't see any contra-indication. Do you?

  1. You can, the only downside would be running out of space too quickly. Or the files being corrupted because something tries to read or right to something it shouldnt. Thumb drives or like the other guy said, key drives are way better, more memory, cheaper, and easier to find.

  2. Exactly right, floppies are dated and hold less, eventually you will not see them on newer machines at all.

    Keydrives are the new floppy!

  3. No downside. With cheap 2 GB cards now available this is the way to go.
