Why one needs to "validate" electronic ticket prior getting the streetcar in Strasbourg, France?

  1. There are bournes at the tram stations and you simply insert the ticket and it pops back out. Then you just need to get on the tram. It's on a trust system, kind of like in Germany (wonder where they got the idea).

    Don't mix them up with the ticket distribution machines, which are much larger and have a screen. Those things never seem to work. You need coins or a credit card. Don't bother. You can buy tickets all over the place in Strasbourg.

    You can transfer and I believe the ticket is good for 2 hours (not sure). It is not possible to purchase a ticket on board the tram.

    I really hate when I'm waiting for my ticket to come back out and the tram is THERE. I'm all "help! wait!" and it's so tempting to get on without validating it but don't because they do come around quite often and check.

    For the buses, it's exactly like in Paris. You have to validate your ticket as you enter.
