Why only people born Hindus can be Hindu? Why can't people convert to it?

If they can, then why do so many Hindus say people can't?

Simple!! because Hinduism is not a religion!! we were worshipping hindu gods even before something so called religion is found. If u wanna be hindu.. u just hav to consider urself hindu and worship hindu gods at the same time worshipping of other religious god is not an offense.. cool isnt it?

Who says that you convert into Hinduism. Even you can be Hindu and also Worship Jesus. There is no bar to that.  

Take for example people converted between Buddhism and Hinduism many times.  Greek Invaders at the Alexander or Hoon Invaders merged into the hindu Society.  They got the status of Kshatria.  So it is possible to convert by following the Hindu religious beliefs.

Other recent example was King of Baroda ( I do not remember the exact name) wanted do second marriage. He converted into Islam which allows the polygamy.  He got married and converted back Hinduism.

You cannot convert to being a Hindu (not in the sense people convert to being Muslim or to Christianity).

Hinduism started out as being a way of life. The Vedas, Upanishads (books of the Hindu religion) etc., all talk about how to live your life, not to harm anyone, etc etc. (you get the point I am sure)........you can choose to live a life according to the Hindu ways......It wouldn't make you Hindu (as in if someone asks you about your religion, you can always say that you are Christian, but you choose to follow the teachings of Hinduism)

you should check out ISKON websites........most ISKCON followers are Christian by birth...........but they CHOOSE to worship Krishna (a Hindu God)..........and they choose to follow the teachings of chaitanya (founder of ISKCON)

Well, it is just the principle of the religion...according to vedic theory, one can only be born a hindu and cant get converted...but however some people practise hinduism even if not born a hindu...and vedic theory doesnt oppose practise of the religion....vedic theory also says that hindu religion was the first religion to be born in the world...and that the first born generations were born hindu but later got converted to various other religions like christianity and islam....so, rise the other religions....hope it was informative!! :)
