okay so recently our principal decided our end of the year trips should be EDUCATIONAL. we used to do fun things like theme parks and skiing and waterparks and now we have to do education things. i am currently writing a letter on "Why our end of the year trips SHOULD NOT be educational" so what arguments could i use. I currently have one and it is that we have worked extreamly hard all year and should get one day to rest and enjoy at the end of year, but what other arguments and points could i state ! thanks in advance!

  1. Its always better to work with the system instead of against it.  You would be better off explaining how and why fun trips can be educational.  For example, theme parks, skiing and water parks all involve physics, so the trips could be bundled with a physics lesson to make them educational.

  2. I dont think its gonna happen...

but you could try to convince your principal that you guys wanna go somewhere because you guys want to learn about it...

like the amusement park example... you can say that you guys just want to learn the physics and mechanics behind it...

but in the end i think your principal will most likely not believe you...unless your principal is "cool"

  3. its the last day, you'll just forget it all anyways

  4. The function of school is education, by extension, all school trips should be educational in nature. Stuff like amusement parks, and water parks are not the responsibility of school and really have no place in school. Perhaps there is room for a one time only Senior Trip.

Alas, you are younger and probably cannot see past the fact that in the past your school allowed cool school fun trips to 6 Flags and the Water Park and stuff and NOW, no dice, The Man says school is for learning and it's not fair.

What you have to do is make the amusement park and water park educational. This may take some work on your part but it is possible . Roller coasters and water slides are amazing machines which utilize important principles of physics, mathematics, materials science, electronics and control systems and mechanics. Perhaps you and your fellow students can make a project exploring these facets of science as they relate to particular rides you intend to visit, and can convince the principle to let you go on that basis.

The principle will of course see immediately that the "science project" is really an excuse to go to a fun place, but he may see that there is something to be learned and make you all conduct a rigorous study of the subjects you propose, and make you do a lot of work you wouldn't otherwise do. All for a day at the park, which you can do any day during the summer with your friends.

  5. Because you will actually enjoy saying "Do you want fries with that?"....
