Why passport and visa is essential when going to a foreign trip?

Because the government says so.

      Last time I left U.S. was August 2002 .. at that time all I needed was a birth certificate and drivers license .  I know they put my information into their computers. After that ,I was able to cross the border with only my license.   Now , the world won't be safe unless you have a passport.

   That was between u.s.a. and canada

  I believe we can still cross mexican border with only a license..

the passport is more than just a document of identity.  if u read the words it says that our govt request the other govt that receives u in their country to accord the best facilities and facilitation to you during your stay there.  that's kinda make us important, man!!!

visa is to control entry so as to stop undesirables fr entering like its happening in our southern border with mexico.
