Why people become anti-intellectual, anti-rational?

It seems to be trendy nowadays.  Take a look at the images provided by mass media.  People like Paris Hilton are idolized and mimicked.

Being intellectual and / or rational is too difficult.  You actually have to try and think about something beyond the superficial level.  Some people prefer to be spoon fed ideas which they can relate to on an emotional or simplistic level.  That way they don't have to go to the trouble of actually thinking about something.  The sad part is that it makes people so easy to manipulate.

In my opinion they just fear that they will not live up to other people expectations and to cover their fear just turn to opposite.

Some teenagers do it for what is supposed to be funny, but generally speaking people who do that just dream about being noticed and it's a cry for originality
