  1. Why can't we not agree to disagree? you have answered your question actually, let me quote, "No one will ever change any ones opinion..."

  2. People can agree to disagree.  In fact, they do agree to disagree.  That's the first step in any disagreement.  If you disagree about disagreeing with someone else, you're agreeing with them.

As for why they can't just blow off the disagreement once it crops up, because inevitably, one side or the other IS wrong.  I know we like to say no one's wrong when it comes to a lot of these things, but it's not true.

    To quote Daniel Patrick Moynihan:

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but they are not entitled to their own facts."

Unless you're talking about entirely subjective things (such as "what's your favorite color") then there is an objective reality to the situation you're looking at.  Someone DOES have the answer right, and everyone who disagrees with them is wrong.  There's no reason to allow the people who have the answer wrong impose their s***w-ups on the rest of the world, or themselves, for that matter.

The trouble comes in figuring out just who that is when.  For all we like to think we're the masters of the universe, we're a bit short on Greyskulls to point our swords at.

Okay, so I did see a picture of McCain earlier today where he was putting on this false grin and my first thought was "Oh my god, it's Skeletor", but you shouldn't judge on appearances alone!

In absence of a sure answer, we fight and bicker over who's right and wrong... which usually sums up to an endless round of "how can you sit there and not know I'm right about everything".  Different societies have their ways of handling that situation.  Ours happens to be getting everyone together every so often, asking everyone what they think, and then going with the answer that makes the most people happy at the time.

Most people like getting their own way, and don't like being proven wrong, so they tend to try and convince others they're right, or else scream at them about how wrong they're being.

So it's because I'm right, you're wrong, and I can't believe you can't see that and just do what I say!
