Why people listen to sad songs when they are sad and crying?

for example, when people are sad and crying their eyes out, they will listen to sad songs. they know it will only make matters worse so why do they listen to sad songs?

crying like laughing is very good for you so, I think it is the same reason when we watch funny movies...

Because it is more compatible.  Happiness needs happy situation and sadness needs sad situation. In the past when I was sad ,listened to sad musics too.

It does make things worse but it just fits the mood, how they are feeling. It helps get that anger and sadness out. When we are sad we want to cry, we feel like crying, we do cry.

they cry because there is a connection or there is an instances in their lives that happen that was also similar to the song..

Songs are very expressive, which means the person gets to release their emotions through the song, so if their feeling sad, the sad song will help release te sad emotion, listening to a happy song doesn't always release that sadness, but just suppresses it so that sadness may come back again within a couple of days.

Tears from being upset have a completely different composition from the tears you get from laughing or when your eyes water.
