I think no matter who you like,  it appears that your favorite candidate gets beat up on, and the other guy gets a pass.  I'm sure McCain supporters will say that everyone takes it easy on Obama and gives McCain a hard time.  It's important to put them both through the ringer, and as voters, it's important for us to challenge our preconceptions about whoever we support.

I have read that McCain treats the media as friends -- takes them along in his bus, jokes with them, etc.  They feel like they're getting the inside track and that they're with a friend.  sometimes people think about who they "like" instead of thinking about the person's skills and ability to reason and to negotiate with others.  The President is an executive and as such must have good people skills.  Too, we've seen from our current prez that intelligence is a necessary quality.  

Could be that race plays a role too.  People get scared of anything "new."
