Any of this problem with LCD big screens? Thanks for any idea. I turned on plasma TV 42 inch for 3 hours and have lots of heat and that gas smell on the back. This happened the same day I buy it when it was new.

  1. Hey there, Im a certified home theater specialist, and i know for a FACT that this is one of the many myths about plasma TV's. Yes, plasma TV's DO contain a mixture of neon and xenon gases in the individual cells of the screen, but contrary to popular belief, these gases will not leak unless the TV is taken apart and the vacuum decompresses.

Even if all the atoms in the TV were to spontaneously leak out, consider this: neither xenon nor neon are toxic, either by themselves or combined. They are also inert noble gases, so they are some of the least reactive atoms in the natural universe.

Did you know will find more hazardous radiation being emitted by the radioactive decay of the rocks in the Grand Canyon than you will 100 away from a nuclear power reactor? At least thats what my physics teacher told me.

Oh you also mentioned you had a lot of heat on the back of the TV - that's actually common for a Plasma, because they require a lot more power and are less energy efficient than an LCD. And that smell was probably just the "new out of the box" smell. All TVs are like that for a while, but it airs out of course.

    Hope this all helps!
