  1. They arent? You can get ponds in many shapes but it is probably due to the fact the corners erode in to roundered shapes

  2. It's a common shape for a slightly larger puddle of water. Mine was square though.

  3. because water wears away at the ground in all directions..it doesnt get so far and just stop (thus creating corners)

  4. because if they were square or rectangular they'd be swimming pools :p

  5. its the way gravity settles the water.

  6. To look more natural - when they were made by mother nature, they must have started with indentations in the soil, which are normally circular. Like puddles.

  7. Oval shapes are aesthetically pleasing, as it reflects the shape of our eyes and just happens to traditionally suit the average garden pond as well as round ones of course which reflect a secure shape man has learned to know and love...

a bit like a wheel or cam on a cam shaft, it works, and you wouldn't want a square one lol

Although, having said all that, a rectangular pond is pleasing to the eye, such as Roman baths you can find, which have become ponds now in stately homes and such.

  8. coz nature gives them tht shape i think thts it.........

  9. Edges get eroded with time

  10. It was natural shape...... But man made ponds will be in any shape even as a star shape....

  11. Some aren't.

But you aren't going to have a square pond unless it is man made.

Things to shape up that way in real life.

  12. It is because the edges naturally erode to form that shape over time. Just think, a puddle starts ot circular and not rectangular? A large deep puddle slowly eroding the edges to create a round edge. Yay. I like puddles. Hope this helped =]

  13. Most aren't. They probably seem that way because that's how they are depicted in cartoons and stuff. In real life i doubt that there are very many ponds which are truly oval in shape.
