  1. i think ya are wrong,India has one of the vast population of the smartest people on the planet, and some CEOS's,Directors,Managers over here in Singapore are all indians..maybe its just that it may take a while for India to get stabilized, just like China who are working on education and on many other aspects as there form a country with a massive population just like India...

  2. There are many different buddha's (teachers) in india and most of buddha's teachings talk about begging which is wrong instead buddha's teachings should be about self help and knowledge to create a better world.India is a 3 world country because of uneducated teachers that teach the wrongs to so many.Indians in india want enlightenment then the only way is to work and become healthier in life and many teachers a bad as they do not understand the world.David

  3. there are many definitions of poverty. the condition you describe is poverty that is perpetuated by denial of opportunity. Our Constitution tries to guarantee equality of opportunity. The poorest of our people largely belong to the Scheduled Communities. They have been the victims of deprivation, and denial of opportunities. The Constitution tries to correct this by the mechanism of compensatory discrimination - i.e., reservation of educational and employment opportunities for them. Over half a century of Independence, it can't be denied that there has been some advance. More benefits have to be  selectively channeled to them.

  4. You said it, but I think they key factor is everyone here is so wrapped up in themselves, they are not prepared to help others who are less fortunate. Having said it, I still believe that the majority of Indians do help others whenever they could. Just give us a little time, after all, with  such a large population, it will take time for the help to reach all the poor.

  5. The poor people can rise from the poverty. But there are many problems. First of all, poor families are divided into two sections - Above poverty line and Below poverty line families where poverty line can be defined as 2400 calories/day/person. The govt provides various benefits to both the sections. Usually the benefits for BPL families are a bit more than that for APL. Now, take an example, the govt supplies rice at Rs 2/kg for BPL families and at Rs.4/kg for APL families. Here lies the problem. The govt is not able to identify the real poor. So most of the APL families avail the facilities and benefits of BPL families and the BPL families end up getting nothing.

This is the main problem. India is such a vast country that recovery from poverty would take a long time. But it is not an impossible task. Just we need uncorrupt govt and industrialists' help. Also help from the NGOs and we, the present youth.
