Why post phone numbers on myspace.com?

Question

I seen alot of people putting their phone numbers on their myspace page. Most of the time music artist are the ones posting their number in their heading. I was wondering what was the purpose of that. Does anyone notice? I don't think its for business purposes, so what is it for? And has anyone tried to call any of the numbers posted up by a famous person on myspace? If so give me details.

Well I've never seen a famous person put up their phone number, but some of the people I am friends with on myspace do.

I think it's rather stupid, unless they know who they are giving it to. And being okay with everyone they are friends with to know their number.

Other than that, I think it's ridiculous.

posting your phone number in your myspace profile is a violation of the myspace terms of service

I have 2 internet phone #s. I cant even afford a cell phone, but these are free. Most are for messages to find out what your fans want from you. Or simply to see how popular you are by the number of calls you get. If its a real line that you can speak to someone on, its probably for business. They may have hosting company that works as your receptionist without having to hire one. Alot of business men and women have an intangible receptionist. I have never called any of them because I dont want to talk to an associate unless I have something important to say.
