  1. It is and always be that way, the White House is more than just a residence.


  2. I do not believe they have to live there.  However, any President who would not live there is foolish.  It is the seat of our government.  It is equipped specifically to be the living quarters and business quarters of the President of the US.  No other place is so equipped.

  3. In the beginning, there was no White House.  Once one was built, it was customary for him to live there.  Now, it has many specially-designed features involving communication and security that make it unlikely that he would live anywhere else.

  4. The first Presidents did not. New York was the capitol before Washington D.C. George Washington lived in Mt. Vernon. And George Bush spent most of his time on his Crawford ranch, lol.

    I'd have to do some more reading to come down to dates, but that is your job. Go to wikipedia and look up White House. Besides, it'll help make you learn instead of someone else telling you.
