  1. HVAC Tech.:  Several reasons for doing so. One would be to test system for leaks. You want to remove all air and water from system because they are non-condensables, and would ruin the compressor.Water boils off quickly in a vacuum, turns to steam and is pulled out by the vacuum pump.    Is what you are doing legal?? If you lack proper certification you cannot access the refrigerant charge of an a/c unit. Punishable by fine up to $25,000 and 5 years in prison.

  2. you pull a vacuum on all ac(cars and homes) units to get out all the moisture in the system, hope that helps.

  3. You have to pull all the atmosphere out of the system or the freon will freeze any water that may be in the system. Water will turn to ice and then you will have a blocked freon flow.

  4. Are you talking about vacuuming the condensation drain?

It sucks out built up slime and keeps your condensation drain pan from overflowing in the house.
