Why do people have trouble seeing, like what goes wrong in the eyes that makes people need glasses and contacts? I have contacts and glasses in real life.

  1. Well, it's the shape of the eye that makes people need glasses. In myopia (shortsightness) the eye is too long for it's power (how much it can focus light) so light focuses in front of the retina, making distant objects blurry while making close objects clear in relaxed state. As to the opposite of myopia, hyperopia, the eye is too short so incoming light focuses behind the retina, because of which hyperopic people can't see well in any distance (again, in relaxed state. most hyperopic people can focus light on the retina using their optical power, much like normal people focusing light closer in order to read). Another common sight problem is astigmatism, in which the cornea or the lens are shaped like a football (instead of being shaped like a perfect circle). This makes light focus in two (or more) different places, which in turn causes blurriness in all distances.

The last sight problem I can tell you about (there are a lot of them, but this is the most common problem) is perbyopia. It happens to everyone and is a natural side effect of aging. It's workings are not exactly known, but it is thought that it is caused by the loss of the elasticity of the crystalline lens. The end result is that the eye can't change focus and therefore cannot focus up close.

  2. well it could be genes. i have contacts& glasses too, and i might have inherited it from my mom & dad because my dad eyesight isn't the best..and my mom has contacts& glasses also.

  3. It maybe genetic or you get in from your parents. Maybe you like reading in the dark or you watch TV so close cause this is some of the reasons why people have a bad eyesight.

  4. It is all related to the shape of the eye. Light is supposed to focus on the retina and give you clear vision. When you need glasses, the light does not focus properly, giving you blurry vision. The glasses, essentially the curvature of the lenses, bring the light to the proper focus and clear up your vision. It is all physiological and later in life becomes age related vision problems, like the need for reading glasses around age 40.
