Question:

Why......?

I've heard that vegetable oil can be used to power cars and such with little or no bad side effects (harmful emmissions). So I was wondering, with all the harmful side effects of gasoline, why doesn't everybody just start making and driving cars that run on vegetable oil (or something like that)?

  1. I would say it is all about government money and big business,

but it does take alot of space to grow enough bio fuel for the amount we consume, it would have to be mixed with diesel in cold weather as it congeals or something, but i am looking to put it in my van but is it legal, as you can tell when someone is using it by the smell

but any way as for these studies, to which is a very good answer given, thank you, but how true is the info?? did the facts get fixed, lets get molder and scully on it!!

  2. Best cars are pre 1985 Mercedes diesels. Most people want shinny new plastic.

I run a blend in winter, half #2 and half wvo.Full wvo in summer.Homemade two tank with heat.$290 spent.

  3. because the vegetable oil comes from?...oil.

Its doesnt work well in cold enviroments or if you leave it to stand for to long it goes thick and cant be injected in to the cylinders

  4. Because it cost too much.  I heard a report on the radio the other day that Bio-diesel is already over $5.00 per gallon.  The government subsidies on bio-fuels is driving up the cost of food and the crops used to produce bio-fuels.  Why don't we use petroleum based diesel for now.

  5. The problem with biofuels is that the more land you devote to growing biofuel crops, the less is available for growing food crops.  That means the more cars are using biofuels, the higher the price of food goes.  There's simply not enough agricultural land on the planet to grow enough biofuels for all our cars, let alone fueling all our cars plus growing all the food we need to eat.

They did a study in the UK which concluded that if they used all the country's agricultural land to grow biofuels, they could only supply about 20% of their transportation fuel needs.  Plus they'd starve, which is just no good.

Biofuels can be good on a small scale, but they can't be a large scale solution for this reason.
