  1. Actually, many electric (or electronics) textbooks use E for electromotive force, which is synonymous with Voltage and it's units are the Volt (V).

A is the abbreviation of Amperes, the unit for electrical current.

Many letters are used for various things in different topics, but convention that has been established gives us the various letters that are commonly used.

  2. The only reason, would have been that the convenient letters would have already been used to represent other things.

Alessandro Volta is credited with discovering electricity.

Andre-Marie Ampere is credited with electromagnetism.

The use of electrical symbols would have started with these guys. The symbols they used would have gained general acceptance. The electrical units were named in honour of the achievements of these people long after they had discovered them.

E represented EMF (Electro motive force) now more commonly referred to as voltage.(v)

    A represents acceleration (f=m*a force =mass x acceleration)

C represents coulombs (Ampere = coulomb per second)

Q represents charge (work that one out)

So to answer the question there is no real reason Just that it had to be something and not easily confused with something else.

  3. Because E is the symbol for electric field and A stands for AMPERE ,which is a unit of electric current
