I don't know, but I'll ask the ostrich!  Perhaps they do not have a need for flying anymore?

Domestic farm-raised turkeys don't fly because they are bred to be huge.   They're too big to get off the ground.

Wild turkeys can fly.  And fast, too.  They've been clocked at 55 mph.
